Overview
Lake Sevan is a national treasure of the Republic of Armenia. It is unique in the region in terms of fresh water reserves and the second in the world among high mountain lakes. The length of the lake is 70 km, the maximum width is 55 km, the deepest point is 83 m. 28 large and small rivers flow into the lake, but only one, Hrazdan, originates. The lake is famous for its fish species “Ishkhan”, which, unfortunately, is currently under threat of extinction. In hot summer weather, the lake with its cool waters is a real escape from the city heat, where you can not only swim but also take advantage of the various recreational opportunities offered by the beach. The Sevan peninsula, which was once an island, offers a beautiful view of the lake and the surrounding mountains. On the peninsula are the churches of the Holy Apostles and St. Johns the Baptist, built in the 9th century.
The city of Dilijan is one of the favorite resort cities in Armenia. Surrounded by mountain forests, it is an ideal place for those who prefer relaxation in the lap of nature. Dilijan is also an important tourist center. Sharambeyan Street in the center of the city is considered the historical center of the city, famous for its unique architecture, as well as workshops, galleries, and museums. One of the most famous international educational institutions of Armenia and the region, Dilijan International School, is located in the city. Since 2016, Dilijan has been included in the World Network of Learning Cities by UNESCO. Currently, Dilijan is considered one of the fastest-developing cities in Armenia.
The medieval monastery complex of Haghartsin is the pearl of the Tavush region. Harmoniously merging with the surrounding nature, it also looks like a shy bride tried to hide her stunning beauty by wrapping herself in colorful dresses of deciduous forests. The monastery is beautiful in all seasons, but especially in spring and late autumn, when nature here fully demonstrates its amazing creative abilities, painting it with all possible colors and shades of the palette.
